Ukraine’s Zelenskyy to meet Trump on Monday after US-Russia summit secured no halt to fighting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he will meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday after a Russia-U.S. summit concluded without an agreement to stop the fighting in Ukraine after 3 1/2 years.
In the early hours of Saturday morning following a summit in Alaska between the leaders of Russia and the United States, senior politicians in Moscow were quick to trumpet the meeting as a win for Russia and its narrative of the war in Ukraine.
The president had announced the summit, which will take place in Alaska, in a Truth Social post Friday. “The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” Trump wrote.
The Trump administration is considering extending an invitation to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to this week's meeting between President Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin in Alaska, according to NBC News.
