A man is in custody and facing charges following what police are calling a “crisis intervention/kidnapping” situation that ended with the discovery of the suspect’s dead mother inside a home in Bartlett.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Bartlett Police surrounded a house due to a "crisis intervention call" on Thursday, according to police officials. Officers said they were on the scene on Luther Rd. and Ash Hill as of around 4 p.m. The street was blocked off. Hours later, ABC24 crews confirmed that a person was taken into custody without incident.

A man has been taken into custody following what police are calling a “crisis intervention/kidnapping” situation that ended with the discovery of the suspect’s dead mother inside a home in Bartlett. The Bartlett Police Department responded to the incident in the 4100 block of Luther Road on Thursday evening.

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Friday released what she described as “shocking and disturbing” footage from body-worn cameras of correctional officers showing the fatal beating of an inmate at the Marcy Correctional Facility in upstate New York.

Police said that after John Langevin surrendered, officers went inside the home and found Langevin's dead mother. The department did not reveal what might have led to her death, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
