Duke Energy is ramping up preparations for potential power disruptions as winter weather threatens the Charlotte region this weekend. The utility company has activated its emergency response protocols and is coordinating with crews across multiple states.

BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) - A worker was rescued Tuesday from a Duke Energy power plant in Boone County Tuesday. The worker was trapped in an elevator that runs up the side of a building. Emergency crews were called to the East Bend Station not far from Rabbit Hash in the morning.

Both the North Carolina Utilities Commission and the Department of Environmental Quality have given Duke Energy key approvals for the utility to move ahead with plans to build new natural gas plants in Person and Catawba Counties.
