On Oct. 15, North Carolina judge Gregory Weeks petitioned the state's parole commission asking for the release of Daniel Green, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole following the 1996 trial for the murder of James Jordan. Green was 18 at the time of the murder in 1993 and was convicted of killing Jordan in a robbery gone wrong.

NBA legend Michael Jordan’s father, James Jordan, was murdered in July 1993 on a North Carolina highway while sleeping in his car. Two teenagers, Daniel Green and Larry Demery, were accused and later convicted of the crime.

The judge who presided over the 1996 murder trial of the men convicted of killing James Jordan, father of NBA legend Michael Jordan, has petitioned for the release of one of those convicted, ABC News reported.

Daniel Green, who was 18 at the time, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1996.
