At least 16 people died after Kenyan police cracked down on anti-government protests across the country on Wednesday, human-rights groups said.

Some of the 400 injured had gunshot wounds, a doctors association says, but the authorities have not commented.

Sixteen people died during the nationwide demonstrations on Wednesday, according to Amnesty Kenya. Most of them were killed by police, the human rights group said.
