Georgia coach Kirby Smart was criticized following the Bulldogs' 41-31 win over Mississippi State after he appeared to shove opposing quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. in the fourth quarter. Smart was not penalized for the sequence despite an official being in the immediate vicinity and reacting to separate them.

Smart appeared to shove Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren out of the way to get to defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann after Van Buren ran off the sideline near the Georgia bench. The incident happened with Georgia up by 17 late in the fourth quarter, on the way to a 41-31 victory at Sanford Stadium.
