LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police have launched a homicide investigation. Police say officers were dispatched to a home on the 1800 block of Darien Drive, which runs between Alexandria Drive and Lane Allen Road, for an unresponsive individual around 1:25 p.m. Tuesday.

The Lexington Police Department found the man after being called around 1:30 p.m. to a residence in the 1800 block of Darien Drive.

The man shot a trooper before carjacking a vehicle and driving to the church. He then shot several people and killed two women. Responding officers killed him.

A church community in Lexington, Kentucky is grieving after a man opened fire– killing the pastor’s wife and daughter, injuring the pastor and his son-in-law.

The Marketplace is set to open in spring 2026, joining existing locations on Beaumont Centre Circle and Richmond Road.

The plan for the project, called Avanti Townhomes, could bring 83 townhome units to 22 acres southwest of the town of Lexington, near where Longs Pond Road crosses Interstate 20. If approved by the county, the development would be slot in right beside the Baneberry subdivision.

The Lexington County case was highlighted among other operations so far in 2025, which the DOJ says has resulted in the seizure of nearly 44 fentanyl pills, 4,500 pounds of fentanyl powder and 65,000 pounds of methamphetamine across the country among other drug busts.
