An Oklahoma purveyor has recalled nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat beef and poultry due to possible listeria contamination, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Wednesday.

The ready-to-eat poultry and meat products are being recalled by BrucePac, an establishment from Durant, Oklahoma

BrucePac is recalling nearly 10 million pounds of meat and poultry products because they may be contaminated with listeria bacteria, which​ can cause illness and death.

While recalls have become almost commonplace recently, the causes of products being pulled from shelves vary in severity. Amongst the most dangerous is contaminated food which could potentially lead to sickness and even death.

Foods produced as recently as Oct. 8 may still be in consumers' fridges or freezers, on store shelves, or in restaurants, FSIS warned.
