Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia and will miss this week's matches, the Premier League club said on Monday.

The team delivered a performance their absent manager will have been proud of and in doing so secured a rare double over Manchester United

Eddie Howe's side have already qualified for the European Conference League play-offs as a result of winning the cup, but yesterday's win against Manchester United took the Magpies into fourth place and they have the chance to move into third when they take on Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
