Crosby, Malkin and Letang won championships together in 2009, 2016 and 2017. That last one came at Karlsson’s expense, defeating his Ottawa Senators 3-2 with Chris Kunitz scoring in the second overtime of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final on May 25, 2017.

Al MacNeil, a former NHL player who won the Stanley Cup as coach of the Montreal Canadiens, has died. He was 89. The Calgary Flames announced Monday that MacNeil died a day earlier in Calgary. No cause of death was provided.

It is NHL trade rumor season. It’s a time of year when some of the biggest names in the league are rumored to be on the move, speculation abounds, and players are the unwitting subjects of conversations well beyond their control.
