Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk region is now entering its third month, with scores of settlements still firmly under its control.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says the Russians have attempted to push back Ukrainian troops from their positions in Russia's Kursk Oblast, but Ukraine's defence forces are holding their designated lines.

Russia and Ukraine have both claimed to have downed a number of enemy drones in an overnight exchange. Russia launched 68 drones and four missiles targeting Ukrainian territory overnight, Ukraine's air force said.

Ukraine has also made extensive use of drones during the war, including to attack military targets and energy installations on Russian territory. One such strike last month triggered an earthquake-sized blast at a major weapons arsenal in Russia's Tver region, west of Moscow.

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces has said this redeployment weakens the Russian military position in Ukraine.
