After Boelter was apprehended in what's being called "the largest manhunt in state history ," Minnesota authorities said he also had a "hit list" of 45 Democratic elected officials. One name on that list was Governor Tim Walz, who called the shooting "an act of targeted political violence."

Following the fatal shooting of Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, the president called Gov. Tim Walz "whacked out."

Boelter was appointed to an advisory board in 2019, but one member says the board does not interact with the governor on a regular basis.
