In February, Trump signed an executive order titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” which gave federal agencies the ability to penalize schools for allowing transgender athletes to compete — something the Trump administration says violates Title IX, the federal civil rights law that prohibits sexual discrimination.
President Trump has threatened to withdraw federal funding from California over transgender high school athlete AB Hernandez, who qualified for the state championship meet.
The compromise is intended to dampen the firestorm building since last weekend when nearly three dozen protesters, including some hecklers, rallied during AB Hernandez’s track and field events.
The investigation was launched in response to a lawsuit alleging discrimination over the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports.
