The plane crashed during takeoff as a snowstorm hit the area.

Seven people are dead and one person was seriously injured after a private jet crashed while taking off from an airport in northern Maine over the weekend, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.

The FAA said two crew members and four passengers were on board. The airport said it planned to provide a more detailed update Tuesday afternoon.

The Bombardier Challenger 600 carrying eight people crashed on takeoff at Bangor International Airport around 7:45 p.m. Sunday night as New England and much of the country grappled with a massive winter storm. The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that one member of the crew survived with serious injuries but everyone else aboard died.
