The Chicago Bulls are sending two-time All-Star center Nikola Vučević and a second-round pick to the Boston Celtics for guard Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick, according to multiple reports Tuesday afternoon.
Moving away from Nikola Vučević signalled the closing of a chapter for the Chicago Bulls. The center was the first acquisition of the 2021 roster rebuild.
In a deal that raises many questions about what other curveballs will follow, the Boston Celtics are trading Anfernee Simons to the Chicago Bulls for Nikola Vučević, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Vučević played in 378 regular-season games for the Bulls, and they went 185-193. He played in five postseason games and won one.
The Bulls already wasted precious time that they should have been spending on roster-building and player development. They aren't going to get it back, either.
When the buzzer finally sounded, the Bulls had executed seven trades and parted with eight players: Jevon Carter (who was waived), Ayo Dosunmu, Kevin Huerter, Emanuel Miller, Julian Phillips, Dalen Terry, Nikola Vučević and Coby White.
The Celtics landed Simons from the Blazers in the offseason deal that shipped out veteran guard Jrue Holiday. Simons hit his stride in January with Boston, posting 15.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg and 2.6 apg in 16 games.
