The first female and longest-serving top cop in more than two decades in DeKalb County is planning to step down.Police Chief Mirtha Ramos intends to resign after five years leading the DeKalb County Police Department,

Ramos was the department’s first female and longest-serving police chief in over 20 years. Former DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond hired Ramos in 2019 after she spent 22 years in the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Chief Mirtha Ramos, the first female and longest-serving DeKalb County police chief in more than 20 years, has claimed she stepped down, but the county says she is on administrative leave.

Chief Ramos became the DeKalb County Police Department chief in 2019 after more than two decades with the Miami-Dade Police Department in Florida.

The county says they're working to fill the roughly 300 open police officer positions currently vacant at DKPD.
