HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A tsunami watch has been issued for Hawaii following a magnitude 7.5 earthquake that occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia. The earthquake occurred at 8:49 p.m. local time.
The U.S. East Coast's biggest tsunami threat lurks just offshore, according to research presented today (April 19) at the Seismological Society of America's annual meeting in Salt Lake City.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is no longer a danger of tsunami waves on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula after five powerful quakes — the largest with a magnitude of 7.4 — struck in the sea nearby on Sunday.
