A juvenile detention officer repeatedly assaulted a 15-year-old inmate who’s accused of kicking his cell door when his calls for assistance “went unanswered,” Florida authorities said.

An officer with the state Department of Juvenile Justice has been arrested on a child abuse charge after Pinellas deputies said he slapped, punched and pushed a 15-year-old housed at a juvenile facility.

Detention Officer has been arrested for child abuse after allegedly battering a 15-year-old male inmate at the Pinellas Juvenile Detention Center. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Patrol Operations Bureau deputies made the arrest.

The 26-year-old guard slapped the juvenile after he threw a paint chip at the guard and then pretended to throw something else at him.
