Russia has released an American teacher imprisoned over what his family said was prescribed medical marijuana, but several other Americans are still detained

Russia has freed Marc Fogel, a U.S. schoolteacher and former employee of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, who had been serving a 14-year sentence for drug smuggling after being caught in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

A deal brokered by President Trump’s special envoy freed the schoolteacher, who was arrested in 2021 and was serving a 14-year prison sentence.
