Donald Trump has hinted at a "phase two" in Gaza after ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas faltered last week. The president made the comments during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland on Monday as the pair discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Donald Trump was in Turnberry, Scotland when reporters asked about the recent aid distribution in Gaza. The president acknowledged “that whole place is a mess.”

Hamas issued a scathing statement in which it rejected U.S. criticism of its handling of negotiations aimed at ending the nearly two-year-long war in Gaza.

The US and Israel accused Sir Keir Starmer of rewarding Hamas after he announced a plan to recognise Palestine as a state. The Prime Minister said the step would be taken in September unless Israel met a series of conditions, including ending the “appalling” situation in Gaza.

Earlier on Tuesday, Starmer said Britain will recognize a Palestinian state in September unless Israel meets specific conditions.

US President Donald Trump on July 27 said Israel would have to make a decision on their next steps in Gaza, adding that he did not know what would happen after moves by both Israel and Hamas seem to suggest that they were pulling out of ceasefire and hostage-release negotiations.
