Forecasters say some of the strong storm cells could generate rainfall rates of 1.5 to 2.5 inches per hour, which could result in rapid flooding on roads and near creeks or streams.

The National Weather Service issued the flash flood warning at 3:20 p.m. and said Waterbury, Naugatuck, Southbury, Prospect, Middlebury, Beacon Falls, Bethany and Oxford could be impacted. The warning is in effect until 6 p.m.

More rounds of thunderstorms swooped into the Chicago area Tuesday. A Flash Flood Warning has now been issued for central Cook, southeast DuPage, and northern Will counties in Illinois until 8 p.m. The National Weather Service said Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that the thunderstorms moving through the area were dropping rain at rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour.
