On the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj resonated with the sweet tinkling of cymbals, holy chants, and vibrant colours as devotees from across the country gathered for the last ritualistic bath of Maha Kumbh 2025.

WITH A massive gathering of more than 1.53 crore pilgrims on Wednesday for the final holy dip on Maha Shivratri, the 45-day Maha Kumbh, which began in Prayagraj on January 13, came to a close. Anticipating the large crowd, the government implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the smooth conduct of rituals on the occasion, officials said.

Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar said that until 8 pm, 1.53 crore (15.3 million) people took holy dip at the Mahakumbh on Wednesday.Speaking over the conclusion of Maha Kumbh Mela today,

Over 1.18 crore devotees have taken a holy dip at Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj on Maha Shivratri. With a total of 64.77 crore attendees, police are on high alert and conducting boat patrols to ensure safety on the last day of the festival.

The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj was marred by several incidents, including stampedes, fire, and road accidents.

The 45-day long Hindu religious event, which began on 13 January, concluded on Maha Shivratri on 26 February. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in 45 days, 66 crore 21 lakh devotees took holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati in Prayagraj.

The devotees had begun to gather on the banks of the Sangam from around midnight, while some waited to take the holy dip during the 'Brahma Muhurt'.
