By Sudipto Ganguly and Shilpa Jamkhandikar MUMBAI (Reuters) -Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan was out of danger, police said on Thursday, following stab injuries received in a scuffle with an intruder at his home in India's financial capital of Mumbai for which he was undergoing surgery.

According to Mumbai police, it is suspected that the intruder made a robbery attempt at actor Saif Ali Khan’s residence and in a bid to prevent the thief from fleeing, Khan had a scuffle with him and got attacked with a sharp object, leaving him with six injuries.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan underwent emergency surgery at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital following a knife attack at his Bandra residence early Thursday morning. The 54-year-old actor sustained multiple injuries during a confrontation with an intruder around 2:30am local time.

He was taken to a nearby hospital at around 3.30am on Thursday with six injuries, two deeper than the others, the Hindustan Times newspaper reported.
