MSNBC Will Now Be Called MS NOW After Splitting Off from NBCUniversal. Here's What It Stands For
On Monday, Aug. 18, the cable news channel revealed it has rebranded amid its exit from NBCUniversal. MSNBC will now be called My Source for News, Opinion and the World, or MS NOW.
And the new MS moniker could also cause some confusion with an emerging digital product tied to NBC News. NBC News Now is an ad-supported streaming service that has gradually expanded its hours and features shows led not only by “NBC Nightly News” anchor Tom Llamas, but also Hallie Jackson and Gadi Schwartz.
MSNBC announced a new name for the network on Monday after being thrown out of the NBCUniversal club and forced to drop both the NBC and the peacock logo from their branding. The network’s new name will be MS NOW.
The new name and logo, which were brutally mocked online, are part of Comcast’s $7 billion spinoff of cable assets.
Comcast's looming spinoff of its cable assets is leading to a messy divorce between NBC News and MSNBC, which heavily relied on the Peacock network's news division.
