GRANDIN, N.D. — A Cass County farmer has announced his campaign for the North Dakota Legislature. Ross Lockhart, a Democrat from Grandin, said Wednesday, Jan. 7, that he will seek to represent District 45 in the North Dakota House. The district covers northeast Cass County, including parts of north Fargo and West Fargo.

The power struggle within the NDGOP between Republican candidates and party leaders who want more control over those candidates could make its way into the courts.

Federal policies on health care and trade are likely to continue to color North Dakota’s biggest government stories in 2026. Congress and the Trump administration are spending money in an attempt to help the rural health care system and farm economy to offset cuts to Medicaid and declining ag commodity prices.
