Just as you may have thought that it was finally safe to think about American politics without thinking about Florida's Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, he has slinked his way into the national news again.

Just months after President Donald Trump’s administration quietly moved to undercut a hardline immigration push by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the two Republican former rivals appeared side by side on Tuesday for the opening of a new migrant detention center in the Everglades.

Trump and DeSantis have a complicated history, with the president’s endorsement propelling the little-known congressman to the governor’s mansion in 2018. In a television ad, DeSantis sat with one of his children and used mock bricks to build a border wall.
