Hednesford Town boss Steve King called their progress to the first round of the FA Cup by beating National League side Gateshead an "unbelievable" achievement. The Pitmen, who play in tier eight, are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition and will now host seventh-tier Gainsborough Trinity in early November.

Hednesford Town booked their place in the Emirates FA Cup First Round with a stunning 3-1 replay victory over Gateshead. Goals from Jack Bearne, Rob Stevenson and Sion Spence sealed victory over the eight-tier outfit over their National League opponents, who took the lead early on through Owen Oseni.

The Pitmen enjoyed a famous run to the fourth round as a fifth-tier side in 1996-97, defeating Blackpool and York City before losing 3-2 to Premier League Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. Almost 27 years on from that feat and Hednesford are now competing in the Northern Premier League West Division, the eighth tier of English football.

The draw for the FA Cup first round was conducted on Monday evening. MK Dons will take on fierce rivals, AFC Wimbledon in a mouth-watering clash. Wrexham are away to Harrogate Town and Birmingham face Sutton United.

Seventh-tier side Harborough Town made history by making it into the FA Cup first round for the first time, beating Bury 1-0 in the fourth qualifying round. Ben Stephens squeezed the ball past Bury goalkeeper Mitch Allen from the penalty spot in the second half.

Gateshead will be in Monday's FA Cup first round draw - but they have work to do as they prepare to host Hednesford Town in a replay on Tuesday night.
