PORTLAND, Ore. — An Oregon house cat died after eating pet food that tested positive for bird flu, Oregon authorities said, prompting a recall of raw frozen pet food that was sold nationwide.

A Portland-based pet food company issued a recall on one of its products after a cat in Washington County contracted bird flu and died after eating the food, the Oregon Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday.

An indoor cat in Oregon recently died from H5N1 avian flu, after eating contaminated raw pet food. The raw food, which tested positive for avian flu, was produced and sold by Portland, Oregon-based pet food company Northwest Naturals.
