Police officer killed, gunman dead in hospital shootout after armed suspect took ICU staff hostage, leaving five others wounded.

West York Borough Police say the officer died in a shooting at the UPMC Memorial Hospital. The gunman is also dead, authorities say.

A gunman, armed with a handgun and carrying zip ties, went inside UPMC's ICU, and took staffers hostage before he was ultimately killed by police in a shootout, the York County DA said.

Police responded to an active shooter incident at a hospital in York, Pennsylvania, on Saturday morning and there is no ongoing threat, officials said.
