The Writers Guild of America is calling on New York's attorney general to launch a bribery investigation into Paramount Global following the cancellation of "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." WGA,

CBS’ decision to end The Late Show in 2026 has left both Hollywood and viewers in shock. On Thursday, the network announced that it will end its late-night talk show, hosted by Stephen Colbert over the past decade, in May 2026, amid financial issues at the network.

The Writers Guild of America wants Paramount investigated for bribery after news of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” being canceled. Variety reports the WGA said it has “significant concerns” that the move may have been a way to bribe president Donald Trump into sanctioning Paramount’s pending acquisition by Skydance.

Paramount told us that the settlement terms were proposed by a mediator and that it will pay $16 million, including plaintiffs' fees and costs. That amount, minus the fees and costs, will be allocated to Trump's future presidential library, Paramount said. Trump's complaint sought at least $20 billion in damages.

The Writers Guild of America released a statement Friday calling on New York State Attorney General Letitia James (D) to investigate Paramount over bribery concerns following the news of the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
