Saturday’s 96th parade celebrating the Black community shows the “longevity of the African American family and the support systems that the communities provide,” one regular parade-goer said.

Nicknamed “The Bud,” the parade has been a back-to-school celebration and showcase for Chicago’s talented young people since 1929.

Since the summer of 1929, it's been a family tradition on the South Side. The Bud Billiken Parade draws thousands every year to help kick off the upcoming school year.
