BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — On Thursday, the family of Dylan Veselic — a 16-year-old lacrosse player for Bay Village High School in Ohio — confirmed that he tragically passed away due to an injury he sustained from a game two days earlier.

Bay Village High School sophomore Dylan Veselic, 16, was playing against Olmsted Falls on Tuesday night when a ball struck him at the base of the back of his head when he attempted to block a shot, according to WKYC, citing witnesses.

Dylan Veselic, a 16-year-old sophomore at Bay Village High School, was injured during a lacrosse game on May 6 in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, the Bay Village School District told USA TODAY. Veselic was trying to block another player's shot when the ball hit him at the base of the back of his head, below his helmet, reported television station WKYC.
