WWE Night of Champions 2025 set the stage for SummerSlam as John Cena retained against CM Punk, while Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill won the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments.

In a subsequent promo, Cena suggested that he made the match for Night of Champions in an effort to expose Punk as a hypocrite of sorts. That was likely in reference to Punk speak

John Cena is still the WWE champion. Despite run ins from Money in the Bank winner Seth Rollins and Co., Cena managed to wiggle his way out of the main event at Night of Champions with his championship after a terrific match with CM Punk.
