The New Jersey Department of Health says anyone who visited Terminal B in the airport on Monday between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. may have been exposed to measles.

The U.S. has surpassed 1,000 measles cases for the first time in five years, according to new data from the CDC published Friday.

The U.S. surpassed 1,000 measles cases Friday, even as Texas posted one of its lowest counts of newly confirmed cases since its large outbreak began three months ago. Texas still accounts for the vast majority of cases in the U.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says nearly all of the cases involve people who were unvaccinated.

There have been 935 confirmed cases of measles across nearly 30 states so far this year, according to the latest update from the CDC on Friday, an increase of 51 over the last week and far surpassing the 285 measles cases reported in the entirety of 2024 (the CDC does not provide data on how many cases are actively infectious).

The growth in measles cases comes as Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. delivers an inconsistent message about measles and pushes falsehoods about the measles vaccine. There have been 1,001 confirmed cases of measles across 31 states and jurisdictions as of May 8, the CDC said in its Friday update.
