Sep 14, 2021 · But no game in NFL history matches the weird weather at the "Fog Bowl” playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears on December 31, 1988.

It tells the story of a strange, glowing fog that sweeps over a small coastal town in Northern California. Filmed in the spring of 1979, The Fog was scheduled to be released at Christmas that year by AVCO Embassy Pictures, but its release date was delayed to February 1, 1980.

The end result: the Bears won, 20-12 – in a game instantly coined “The Fog Bowl” – and advanced to the NFC title game, where they were blown out by San Francisco on a frigid but fogless day.

The fog proved to be a particular challenge for players and spectators alike, with both teams being forced to a running game as receivers could no longer see the football, and fans and television announcers finding it nearly impossible to see the action on the field.
