👇Why your dog can’t run forward fast… In directional training, there’s a mistake I see happen ALL the time. Dogs don’t run forward quickly – they just return fast. The fix is extremely simple, but it’s insanely effective. If you only reward the dog when it returns, of course it’s not motivated to run forward. Your dog thinks: Running backward = treat “Running forward is NOT rewarded, so I’m not in a hurry.” In the teaching phase, I always put treats behind the cone, so the dog can reward itself

In this video, Dick works on obedience with Roy, followed by directional training where Roy is sent forward and guided left and right. This is an exercise Roy already understands well, but at one point, something goes wrong for an unclear reason. Watch how Dick calmly resolves it, and then Roy performs the exercise correctly again. 💡 What makes our training effective? ✔️ Step-by-step learning ✔️ Clear instructions ✔️ Positive reinforcement ✔️ Problem-solving when things don’t go as planned Want

Learning and completing a full directional course is not an easy task, especially for a young puppy like Andy (Jenn Brown; sponsored by The Rothman Family) who is under 6 months old. However with the right training and reward system, anything is possible. Shoutout to our amazing team for getting our working dogs in training, like Andy, poised for excellence so early in their foundational training! 👏🔥 | Penn Vet Working Dog Center

First Steps in Directional Training with Dana ➡️ ⬆️ ⬅️ ⬇️ This video showcases the very first step in our directional training system. Eventually, we aim to command the dog to move in any direction. We always start with cones, teaching the dog to move from cone to cone. This is Dana’s very first session, using just two cones. At the beginning, Dana has no idea what’s expected. However, within this 2-minute training session, you can see her starting to move from one cone to the other on her own.

How to teach directional training with this 1 genius trick. The goal is to send your dog forward, backward, left, and right on demand. Here’s how to do it in 3 steps: #1: Use a cone, and create the expectation that there’s ALWAYS a reward there. #2: Place a bowl behind the cones. #3: Sometimes, have food in the cone before you send your dog – and sometimes – reward it only after it reaches the cone. What does this do? It LURES the dog toward the cone, without creating a dependence on the food bo

What does IFT mean for our pups? 🐾 IFT stands for “In For Training.” This is when our puppies return to our National Headquarters in Smithtown, NY, to begin advanced training to become guide dogs. Over the next three to four months, each dog works closely with a certified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor to master the skills they need to guide someone who is blind or has low vision. They learn to navigate crosswalks and obstacles, stop at curbs and steps, and follow directional cues like “left” an

Watch as I demonstrate with my 5-month-old puppy, Rapha, how the E-FLO Training System allows us to build complex bite work foundations with effortless precision. See how we maneuver into various positions with deep grips over and over again, without a single instance of forcing (pulling, prying, or leveraging) the puppy. Trainers often speak of "zero conflict" as an ideal. This is the definition in action. 🔴 What You're NOT Seeing: ❌ No leashes, harnesses, or tie-backs ❌ No training tables ❌ N

Training Dana to Go Forward on Command 🐕➡️ In this training session, we’re teaching Dana to go forward to the cone on command. Eventually, we’ll expand this by adding more cones, allowing us to direct Dana left, right, forward, and backward. But for now, we’re focusing on just moving forward. We’re using a retractable leash, which is perfect for maintaining control during this type of exercise. Interested in learning more about directional training?
