Let’s talk about the moment you say a cue and your dog just, doesn’t. They look away, they move slower, they suddenly need to sniff the exact blade of grass they’ve sniffed 400 times. Before you assume they’re blowing you off, ask a different question. What has that word come to mean for them? Cues and rewards don’t stay neutral forever. They absorb history. If a word regularly predicts pressure, frustration, or the end of something good, the dog doesn’t hear “information.” They hear a warning.
