Coral Reefs: Stunning Footage of Ocean Ecosystems

Corals are gemstones that come from the skeletons of tiny marine organisms called coral Polyops. Over time, these organisms build branching structures made of calcium carbonate (CaCo3). When these structures harden and are polished,they become beautiful stones used in jewelleries and ritual adornments. Gemologists call coral an organic gemstone, a category that also includes pearl, amber, shells and ivory. In Yorubaland, corals are considered sacred adornments of royalty and priesthood. #coral #
