On this date in 1970, WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN by the CARPENTERS entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #84 (Sep 14, 1970) This song started out as a bank commercial. Songwriters Paul Williams and Roger Nichols were commissioned by an advertising agency to write it in 1968 for Crocker Bank, which was trying to attract young people and newlyweds to their institution. "It had all the romantic beginnings of a bank commercial' is the way I describe it," said Paul Williams. "There was actually a wonderful wri
