Benjamin Thomas Brockman was born on December 11, 1831 in the Spartanburg District of South Carolina. Brockman established himself as a successful merchant and farmer in Reidville, South Carolina prior to the Civil War. When South Carolina seceded, he was instrumental in organizing local volunteers, forming what would become Company B of the 13th South Carolina Infantry. Broc
