White-crowned pigeon nest cam: We are working on bringing you a live white-crowned pigeon nest cam. This is a video clip from a few minutes ago, out on an island in the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge. These pigeons are incredible birds, they nest on the backcountry mangrove islands but feed on the mainline keys where the hardwood hammocks and pine rockland habitats host their favorite foods of fruits from poisonwood, blolly, fig , seagrape, pigeon plum and other tree species. Great news! The white-crowned pigeon family on the refuge's critter cam has added a new member. Check out this video clip from yesterday highlighting the male pigeon (he's a little darker, greener neck colors) feeding the very young pinkish colored chick. Chicks are fed "pigeon milk", a substance made from the berries they eat, specifically to feed their young.
