The abolition of slavery in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, and others began a ripple effect that inspired Black resistance worldwide. From Barbados’ Bussa to Grenada’s Fedeon, Caribbean uprisings helped crack the system open. Trinidad & Tobago led the world by declaring Emancipation Day a holiday in 1985, replacing Columbus Day with African pride.
