June Christy (Nov 20, 1925-1990) was one of the many female vocalists, who emerged from the rigors of the Big Band era of the 1930s and ‘40s to become major recording artist in her own right. Today, Christy is best known as an innovator in the Cool Jazz genre of the 1950s; her voice, originating deep in the chest will forever be an important part of The Great American Songbook.
