Located near Pound Gap, VA, the Pine Mountain Tunnel is a very interesting piece of local history. Created by the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad in 1947, the tunnel is nearly 3/4 of a mile long and connects Pound, VA with Jenkins, KY. The railroad lost it's primary customer in 1957 and, along with safety concerns, the tunnel closed shortly after in 1958.
