On March 10, 1957, The Dalles Dam reservoir flooded Celilo Falls and a portion of Celilo Village. With rapids that dropped the Columbia River more than eighty feet in a half-mile, Celilo Falls created some of the most productive fishing sites in the Pacific Northwest, and abundant fish runs drew Indigenous people to village sites in the area that date back at least 11,000 years. This footage featured here of salmon fishing is preserved in OHS’s research library and was shot on 16mm by Harry Page
