Although we mainly rescue flying-foxes, we are sometimes called to help insectivorous microbats. At first glance I thought Charlene was a Gould's wattled bat but once I arrived home and consulted my bat book, I discovered that she is in fact a Chocolate wattled bat. All bat species can carry what we call 'bat flies' and there are two species that are found on microbats. Although harmless to humans, Charlene has a reasonable bat fly load that I am attempting to remove as they are blood suckers. M

Baby bats 🦇👀🩷🖤 How adorable are these teeny little bats 🦇🖤 I used dark chocolate mini cupcakes and a dark chocolate buttercream to make these. 🖤 🦇 Use a small serrated knife to cut press in half. 🦇Pipe two dots of buttercream to each cupcake and attach an Oreo half to create the wings. 🦇 Use a large round tip to pipe buttercream on top.🦇 Press down onto parchment paper.🦇 Freeze for 20 minutes.🦇 Remove from parchment. 🦇 Add a quarter of an Oreo mini for each ear. 🦇 Attach candy eye
