Here in California I find these delicious edible mushrooms growing in association with healthy tan oaks during the winter season. They like extended periods of rain and will start popping up when conditions are wet enough. .Black trumpets (like morels) can be exceptionally difficult to spot while scanning the forest floor. Their dark color and low profile allows them to naturally camouflage. M
