Let's talk Forcible Entry! Forcible Entry is an essential fire ground function that requires a firefighter to access a locked door, a wall, or a window. Firefighters usually use a pair of irons, which involves a flathead axe that is paired (or married) to a halligan bar. Firefighters insert the forks of the Halligan into the door jamb and use an axe and leverage to advance the forks deeper until they have "defeated" the jamb or advanced past it and can pry the door open. Doing so takes the slack/bounce out of the chain and delivers more force on the padlock. Either the fork slid OVER the shackle or the pike slid IN the shackle can be used. I typically prefer this method, though both can have their place. If you have a heavy-duty / "real" brand lock, this technique may be more difficult and may not work. O
