Finally Shepard's husband, Hawkshaw Hawkins, told the label that if they weren't going to release the song, then he was going to record it. Written by Justin Tubb, "Lonesome 7-7203" became a number one hit for Hawkins. Unfortunately, Hawkshaw Hawkins passed away in a plane crash three days after its release.
